How do I get white oil based paint off a black leather car seat?

The paint has been there a while. I want to clean the seat and sell the car. HELP!!How do I get white oil based paint off a black leather car seat?
Try a little MOJO hand cleaner. How do I get white oil based paint off a black leather car seat?
Try grease and wax remover
There are paint removers on the market for just that purpose...to remove paint from surfaces.

The problem is that it hasn't been shown that it would work on leather.

I would try the product on a piece of leather that is not normally visible and see if it will work without destroying the leather.

Other than that, there is a black leather or vinyl spray paint that would cover the white up. Just scratch the white surface with sandpaper, wipe it clean and spray.

Good Luck!!!

Where is my oil filter located on my car?

i have an 89 honda accord and i need to change the oil filter but i cant seem to locate it under the car. please help!!Where is my oil filter located on my car?
Buy a auto repair manual for your car.Where is my oil filter located on my car?
Its on the engine. On that particular model it may be easier to see it from up top, under the hood. (The filter will be toward the bottom of the engine.)
Back of the engine, the side closest to the firewall, near the bottom

  • Want to start a mobile car repair business, but what do i do with the waste oil?

Need to know how to go about getting rid of waste oil and old old filters, fuel filters etc.. safey.Want to start a mobile car repair business, but what do i do with the waste oil?
Cold climate? Waste oil heater of course. See http://journeytoforever.org/biofuel_libr鈥?/a> for that.

Filters go in the crusher, the oil reclaimed of course. See http://www.oberg-crusher.com/automotive_鈥?/a>

If the climate isn't such that you would use your output in the heater, talk to a recycler about them putting in a tank for you. They will come and collect your oil where it will be cleaned up and recycled.Want to start a mobile car repair business, but what do i do with the waste oil?
    Oil recycle centre.
You need to speak to your local authority. Sometimes they'll accept that sort of thing at a recycling centre but for ';trade'; oil waste you may need to make arrangements with a specific waste collection business.
you are not ready to start a business if you need to ask this question!
i used to work for an enviromental company that bought an recycled the used oil. they would refine it to a point where it could be reused as oil fuel for industry or people with used oil furnaces.

look around your area for such a service or company, if there is one available an u could have them pay u for your used dirty fluids. we also had pick-up services so all the customers had to do was collect an store the oil etc either in 45 gal barrels or larger storage tanks then call us when they were getting full an we'd come out an collect the oil.
keep it all in a large drum and sell it to people that heat with these new used oil furnaces, you can get 50 to 75 cents a gallon for it.
Presuming you are in the UK ??? Speak to your Environmental Health Officer - he will be able to guide you.
you will need a waste oil container and filter barrel to store them in where you keep your vehicle, i would use a filter crusher as you can get more in the drum then as you have to pay to have it emptied, there are plenty of used oil collectors out there, do a search on the internet for them. most will supply the containers free of charge and collect the oil for free, the main thing you need is reciepts for the disposal of the oil and filters to show the local council that you are conducting your business properly
Commercial waste disposal in your phone book.

I wouldn't bother with this enterprise. It gets involved and you will soon run into a stumper.

Also there are laws covering what you can do, where, and legalities you won't believe.

    Then there's the insurance problem.

Now ask yourself, who pays when someone gets hurt?

    Are you master mechanic certified?
There are a number of ways and it depends on where you live. We actually installed a waste oil heater in our garage and use it to heat the shop. The oil filters we have a drain rack that we stand them on and let all the oil drain out of them and then crush them the local landfill will accept them that way. The fuel filters the same thing. The gas filters we do similar except we put them on there own rack and drain pan as we can't use the gas in the heater. make sure you take chock blocks and good Jacks and jack stands. Always block up what you are working on and try and use a spot that is fairly level.

My car looses oil every 1 month. What seems to be the problem?

It depends. How many miles are on your car? On higher mileage engines, the rings, gaskets or valve seals can leak. If this is the cause, you might see a puff of smoke from your exhaust pipe when you first start your car. These items would be pretty expensive to fix and it might be cheaper to just keep adding oil. If the engine is pretty high mileage, you might try adding either ring-seal or other seal restoring product to your oil. These are sold at all auto parts stores.

If a gasket is leaking you might see oil drops on the pavement below the car, or thick black deposits on the outside of your engine. Replacing gaskets would be cheaper then internal engine work.

Some cars do burn small amounts of oil, usually European, but a domestic or Japanese car shouldn't.My car looses oil every 1 month. What seems to be the problem?
Did you know that according to user's manual normal oil consumption is ';1 quart per 1000 miles or more';? No kidding. BTW, conusmption is measured in oil volume per distance (usually 1000 mi) rather than time units. My car looses oil every 1 month. What seems to be the problem?
    leak
what kind of car do you have? some cars naturally eat oil. Look at the BMW M5 for instance. Every E39 owner drives around with an extra court in hand.

My friend just noticed her car ran out of motor oil. Is she dead meat?

My friend is a total ditz and forgot to check her motor oil, and doesn't remember exactly when she checked it last.. might have been a couple months. When she checked it today it was totally bone-dry. The car still runs, though. Since it hasn't exploded or anything yet, does that mean she's in the clear? What kind of damage can she expect? My friend just noticed her car ran out of motor oil. Is she dead meat?
As noted, the dipstick will not tell you if the car is completely out of oil. However, if the dipstick is showing no oil, the car is critically low. DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR WITHOUT ADDING OIL. Go to the local 7-11 and buy two quarts of 10w30 oil (civics hold about 4 quarts) and put it in. If the dipstick then shows oil, you probably have averted disaster, although you might have worn the engine some. The oil light is sort of a ';nuclear meltdown'; device - in most cars, it will not register until serious damage is being done to the engine. My friend just noticed her car ran out of motor oil. Is she dead meat?
The dipstick is dry only after a couple of quarts have burned off.

I remember working with Cummins K19 diesel when I worked on crewboats...the dipstick might be dry, but that engine still had about 15 quarts in the oil pan. At least what drained into the waste oil container and showed on the sight glass proved this.

Another couple times when I had my old Ranger and Isuzu trucks in for oil changes, the techs tell me there was no oil on the stick. Okay, they still got about 3-4 quarts out in both cases. Retards.

The Honda won't be anywhere near that full of oil, but there is safety margin built into this.
if she was driving and the light for the low oil pressure remained off, then you should be ok, but the oil was not completely dry. i will tell you the truth, i had that same thing happen to me last week. i am testing a theory about oil life expectancy. and i have not checked th level in about months. checked it last week and found that the dipstick was dry. now i know that the dipstick only measure the last two quarts most of the time, but i bought two quarts any way. i put one quart in it and i am now only a quarter of a quart low.. what i am saying is do not be concerned if the light remains off. just add enough to bring the level up to full. if the light has come on and stayed on for longer than normal, then she should be concerned
Don'r start the car until oil is in it. Fill it to the full mark and then get a oil change. and engine flush. The oil probably oxidized (coked) on the cam and lifters. She is lucky the engine didn't seize yet.
There is usually a little oil in the pan when even if it doesn't show on the stick. Running low can damage the bearings and will usually show up in low oil pressure. Check it with a guage
sounds like she just caught it in time, it should be ok if she filled it back up. she will do that too often sometime and the she will wondering what the knock is. oil is cheaper then another engine.
    the dipstick statements are true

i have seen these civics get an oil change with absolutely no oil in it, it surprisingly ran but very rough

if her engine runs smooth it shouldnt be too bad but tell her to check the oil when she gets fuel
That Eng is shot-for starters -Rod Bearings-Main Bearings-Cam Bearings- Cyl walls--May

I ask if this Friend has a sense of Smell and is Her Hearing Imparied?,Because that Eng was doing a lot of Talking to Her:
Fill it up immediately and if theres no rattlin or smoke or strange noises, then shes been lucky. Good luck!!

On the other hand if there is then it could be costly, prob a new engine required.
She has nothin to lose, add oil and keep on truckin. It hasnt died yet but may.
It won't explode... She has to put at least 4 quarts of oil in it and best bet is to have an oil change done.. ( Put Oil in it first as they will charge you more ) As long as the car is running she should be ok.. Surprised the oil lite was not on

DO NOT Listen to the one that said the engine is shot it is not true.. As long as it doesn't tick, clink or smoke your friend is fine

Can low engine oil level cause a car to overheat in a 93 Hyundai Elantra?

first, the oil fulfills an important roll in the cooling of engine is not single lubrication. Low level of oil smaller lubrication and greater friction. Also Hyundai has oil injectors within the motor and underneath the pistons reducing the temperature of the pistons. by these reasons the oil is very important in the engines, now if the system absorbs a little air can be very bad for the engine, could cause serious problems. Can low engine oil level cause a car to overheat in a 93 Hyundai Elantra?
i do not believe that the oil level will cause overheating because its not part of the cooling system.you may want to have the radiator cleaned or maybe check the temp sending unit for failure.hope this help Report Abuse
Can low engine oil level cause a car to overheat in a 93 Hyundai Elantra?
    Generaly, no.

It's more likely low on coolant, has a bad thermostat, blown head gasket, plugged radiator, radiator fan not working.
Too Low Eng oil will sieze up.Eng.The temp of coolant in Eng.

is what you see in dash,Gauge.
    YES, IT CAN.

What is engine oil supposed to do? It is supposed to lubricate the moving parts inside the engine so that the engine does not overheat from excess friction. Did you ever hear anyone say: '; I burned up my engine because I didn't have enough oil in it.'; You may be able to save your engine by putting a good quality engine oil in it, filled to the full mark on the dipstick. Eliminate any oil leaks ASAP.
    low almost empty?yes.

low smething like almost ok ? no. it will not
Yes a low oil level can affect the temperature of the engine. If there isn't enough oil going through the crankshaft, camshaft, lifters, rockers basically through the entire motor then you get a little bit of metal on metal and that causes friction and the engine can and will run at a little higher temperature than normal. Also i would recheck your thermistat due to the fact that sometimes its hard to tell when the thermistat opens up. With the engine running grab the water hose returning to the radiator, it can be quite warm so be careful, but you can feel the coolant flowing through the hose and back into the radiator. If you can;t feel it then the next thing to do is to pull the thermistat after the motor cools, and put it in a pan of boiling water and you can visually watch it open up, if not it is bad. And they are only 5-10 bucks from any of your local parts stores.
That can be one effect of low oil. If there is not enough oil then there will be more friction between moving parts. More friction equals more heat. Its VERY bad to run an engine low on oil.
I have heard that it is possible, but you wouldn't want your oil level to run low in the first place!

Oil absorbs heat, and that heat is dissipated as air flows over the oil pan. So, when you have a lower volume of oil you have less heat disspation.

I, however, see low oil as more of a contributing factor for overheating rather than the main cause, except if the oil was extremely low.

Could I run a diesel car on a diesel /veg oil blend without modifications?

I've seen several programs that say you can run a diesel car on vegetable oil, although modifications need to be made because vegetable will thicken up at cool temps.

My question is, could I run the veg oil without modifying the car, if I ran it as a mix with diesel, say 50-50? I'm talking about clean unused vegetable oil.

A secondary question. How much filtering would used vegetable oil require? When I was in the restaurant biz, we used to filter ours every night with what were essentially tough oversize coffee filters. Is that all that is required?Could I run a diesel car on a diesel /veg oil blend without modifications?
There may be a risk of Eng damage W/Out mods. Dsl Eng

Use pretty good filtering system. I May be wrong about this.

But the couple of cars that I've seen running on Veg. oil, all had the Mod. done.

Is there a real diference in my car mileage if I change to a high mileage oil?

I have a 1997 chevy cavalier, 205,000 miles on it. I use 5W30, usually castrol. Is there a real diference in my car mileage if I change to a high mileage oil?
If you're not having problems with your current oil, there is no reason to switch to a ';high mileage'; oil. High Milage oil is not junk though - it's just that not every high mileage engine needs it.

If you have a little bit of an oil leak, your engine consumes oil ( when you check the dipstick, it's low - but you havent noticed oil spots on the driveway ) or it smokes then you might want to try it.

High mileage oil has additives that prevent burnoff if it gets into the combustion chamber ( what causes smoke ), additives to help soften seals ( helps make them expand and slow or stop leaks ). Beyond those benefits, a high mileage oil is no different than your standard oil.Is there a real diference in my car mileage if I change to a high mileage oil?
    high mileage oil is junk...

    and is all a myth.

if coke made a coca cola for people 40+ everybody 40 and over would drink it thinking its healthier...but in the long run is the same stuff.

your paying for the name on the bottle...and transmission additives that swell up the seals in your motor....along with a whole bunch of other crap.

just use regular or synthetic oil...one of the top causes of engine wear is switching different types of oils all the time...use one kind of oil..and stick with it.
No Castrol High mileage oil has additives that help keep the seals and gaskets in your engine in good working condition so you dont burn oil or develope oil leaks, this however has little to do with mileage

    Ramps
Portable ramps? There are 2 portions. The approach ramps and platform ramps. Both will cost you a cool $1,500.00 at a discount ramp store.

There are the smaller versions that just lifts the car by a bit, and its called minilift car ramps and they cost $185.00.
    A lift ?
Car ramps. You can find them at an auto parts store or maybe even Walmart.

Unless his car is low to the ground, then they don't work.

    Otherwise, they're great.

Get the heavy duty ';plastic ones'; they never rust and they last forever.
    Car ramps.
    vehicle ramps??
what if i already have 4 sets ?
    car ramps
Car ramps, oil change ramps, any kinda vehicle ramps. However, if you have a vehicle with a very low front end, they will not work unless you.... Nevermind.
You're looking for Vehicle Ramps. Most dept stores carry htem BEWARE: Certain ramps are rated for a certain weight...make sure you read the fine print...
    They're called ';lawns'; !
    Its called a Car Lift or an Auto Lift. You can find cheaper versions that the oil shops use that make it easier for home use. Just do a google search for ';Car Lift';
ramps - go to an auto supply store, they will know what you want

Why does my car idle down when I remove the oil cap?

I have a 1988 mazda mx-6.when I took the cap off the idle slowed down some, not too much like its going to die but definitely noticeable Is it because the breather tube off the valve cover goes to the intake on the throttle body?the air filter didn't look bad enough to be slowing air flow. Why does my car idle down when I remove the oil cap?
These are sealed systems. When you opened the system with it idling you created a vacuum leak. Put the cap back on and it will return to idle. These systems are not designed to be opened while running except if a mechanic is checking for an idle difference while diagnosing a potential problem. Why does my car idle down when I remove the oil cap?
closed system and you introduced massive air intake/computer trying to compensate/stop fooling around under there with engine running/that will keep all fingers and eyeballs where they are supposed to be

Why dont people belive me when i say you can run a diesel car on veggie oil?

only older ones with a fuel pump not common rails. if you think of doing it check with mechanic first. you will save a fortune on fuelWhy dont people belive me when i say you can run a diesel car on veggie oil?
I believe you, as I do run my Pajero on a 70/30 mix of veggie and diesel. And by the way you are OK to use up to 2500 litres per year tax free however if you go over this amount you will have to pay tax on the whole lot so keep records of your useage. Why dont people belive me when i say you can run a diesel car on veggie oil?
';Of course you can';, well my pal used to run his Peagut 1.9 diesel on it no problem....
You might get away with it on some, but there's too much glycerine in vegetable oil to work properly. It has to be removed if you want a proper job.
mythbusters tested it, its comfirmed and possible
It was on top gear a while back so it can be done.
Let's beleave! The first diesels were run on Vegitable oil. And almost any can run on filtered and heated veggie oil.
Perhaps you need to explain that it does need some additives - but a lot of people don't realise that they are chemically very similar.

p.s. as soon as you put vegetable oil in your tank you are supposed to write a cheque to Mr. G. Brown c/o 10 Downing Street to pay the fuel duty!
I saw it on Mythbusters.. but they used previously used cooking oil, like grease from french fries at restaurants.
you can run it on veggie oil but it's illegal if you don't declare it to the government and pay the tax on it as vegetable oil is VAT free at supermarkets etc. as it is intended for personal use while cooking food not running a car.
Depends on who you refer to as this ';people'; - the Mongolians? Despite the fact that Mongolians hardly own motorised vehicles, they turned out to become some of the most advance people away from Mongolia! So that's the reason I asked, who you meant by ';people';...
You also need a heat wrap on the fuel line and possibly higher fuel pressure.

There is one near us, it smells like a chip shop !

Long term its not a solution because of the land needed to grow the crops.

And of course, its only cheap while its not popular. Once many people sign up for it, the suppleirs will stuff people with the price of veg oil
people are brainwashed by our governments and oil companies into thinking that it will have adverse effects on the engine

truth is if you use a good mixture of oils you'll have no real problems always good to keep some forcourt diesel in the tank as it wil thin down the other oils so as not to clog the injectors

newer disel engines are not so good for running on veg oil
Its all true, I will back you up on that. Also the governments are trying to produce bio-diesel which comes from rape seed oil.But to do it succesfully you need a good old engine, there are some bin wagons in the southern councils using collected and refined vegetable oil to run the towns wagons and it has reduced costs, pollution and council tax
I believe. I've seen it done.
people are stupid thats why - I can say for sure it works!!

I am thinking we should find out what they are using and instead of paying them very high ...we should do it ourselves. What is the best oil filter and engine air filter for 2004 Saturn ION 2 sedan car?
All Saturn cars have AC-Delco filters throughout the car from the factory. Wix, Modorcraft (made by Purolator) and Purolator Gold by name are equally as good. If the Saturn dealer isn't using AC-Delco filters the public is being ripped. Be extreemly careful if you intend to use a replacement K%26amp;N air cleaner on a GM (Saturn) product that's still under factory warranty. Do not let your certified Saturn dealer see it in your car or your factory warranty will evaporate like Casper the ghost.

Cheap discount store Fram filters should be left on the discount store shelves. What is the best oil filter and engine air filter for 2004 Saturn ION 2 sedan car?
There is one very simple answer here. Both the oil %26amp; air filter are A/C Delco. If it bothers you buying from the dealership go to an A/C Delco store. Both have been tested and approved by your vehicle manufacturer and are up to there specifications and that is what you use. Leave the junk on the shelf for the next guy. 40 years in the business has taught me a few things. No I am not a A/C dealer just a licensed technician.
Wix oil filter, K%26amp;N Air filter never has to be replaced just clean it once in a while.

Refill with good quality synthetic oil and make sure you change at least every 5,000 miles, without fail.

    That's just mechanical cruelty...
    HI

I think most read your question wrong.... IT hasn't been driving in 2years... Anyway the oil is most likely OK but to be on the safe side I'd change it. Its not expensive, That way you know its not contaminated with condensation nd what not from sitting all that time.

    good luck

    tim
You mean it still is a fluid and not a lump of black carbon? YES! Change it!
It certainly is something to consider. Unless of course you like borrowing trouble.
    Short answer...YES
If you want your engine to last. Yes (and the filter).

I took my car in to my dealer for an oil change, engine check with 26 pts inspection. Now, whats wrong?

After driving it 5 or 10 miles and turning off the engine, I now hear a ticking or clicking sound coming from towards the back on the passenger side. The car never did this before. Is this the beginning of my problems with my car and this dealership? I have 5420 miles on the odometer. Its a Chevy Aveo LT 2005.

What is this ticking sound I hear, and how can it be remedied? Is it ok for it to do this? You know, my car was running so well, I was leary about taking it in for fear they would do something to it when they went under my hood. Guess I should have followed my instincts.I took my car in to my dealer for an oil change, engine check with 26 pts inspection. Now, whats wrong?
Sounds like an electric fuel pump.

Take it back and have them test drive it. You are still under warranty; make it their problem, not yours.I took my car in to my dealer for an oil change, engine check with 26 pts inspection. Now, whats wrong?
If you hear this ';ticking'; while you are driving, see if you picked up a stone or other item in right rear tire. Hope it's only a stone.
Yes just sounds like a rock in the tread of the tire.

    2005 with only 5,420 miles??
why does everyone think that the dealership service departments ';break'; things on your car when you take it in for an oil change? trust me....we dont. at least in the 3 that i have worked at.

    how about this answer....

before jumping to conclusions, drive back up there, have the service manager or a tech ride WITH you, and see what they think it may be. if the car is still under warranty make an appt or have them check it then.

and as for your instincts....jiffy lube is a far more crooked place than a dealership, plus i would rather have a factory tech working on my car rather than a $7/hr guy that they hire a new one every 6 months...

What happens if i lose the oil cap to my car?

i lost my oil cap to my car it ran fine for about a day and a half then started sputtering and then cut off i and some oil but it was too much what do i do?What happens if i lose the oil cap to my car?
parts stores usually have a generic cap for the oil fill . don't forget the engine cleaner for the splatter all over your engine. What happens if i lose the oil cap to my car?
Your best bet is to go to a dealership that sells (and most importantly) services the model and make of your car. You might need to go with your Vehicle's Identification Number (VIN), so that you can get an accurate oil cap replacement.

However, dealerships are usually very expensive when you order parts through them. Your second-best bet is to try a junk-yard or salvage yard to see if your car is there, if it is, chances are you might get an oil cap for a serious fraction of the price you would get at a dealership.

What weight motor oil should be used for my vintage car?

I have a 1984 Chry town %26amp; country, Labaron 2.6, the milage is 140,900 I usually change my oil every 1,000-1,400 miles. Since its almost 17 years old what weight would help keep it alive at this age? This car is well taken care of and almost every part has been replaced except for the engine and tranny..Thank youWhat weight motor oil should be used for my vintage car?
Actually your car is over 20yrs old, but thats not a bad thing. Most manufacterers will put a recommendation on the oil cap and when they don't its usually good to go with 30weight. 5W30 or 10W30, also with the miles that you do have I would also recommend that you use a high mileage oil because of the extra additives they put in to help the seals, bearings, and gaskets in your engine.

If you take good care of your car then it will last a long time. Also, I wouldn't recommend changing your oil so much, every 2500-3000 miles is just right.

Good luck and hope this helps. What weight motor oil should be used for my vintage car?
    I have a couple older cars %26amp; I use 10w40 in them.
castrol high milage 20/50is the best for that car
    I would say 10w30
It depends on the climate where you are. If it's a really cold climate, I'd go with 10w30, if it's a warm climate, I'd go with a 20w40.
Any quality brand of 10w30 would be fine. If your using conventional motor oil it would be OK to only change it every 3000 miles. Quaker State offers a special blend oil for engines with high mileage. If cost is not a factor synthetic motor oil would be an option. Synthetic oil offers superior lubrication with less break down so it can be run longer between changes and promote extended engine life.
10w40 oil used to be the ';standard'; for multi-grade oils when that vehicle was built but it does not hold additives as well as 10w-30.

For most parts of the country where winter is not close to zero degrees, 10w-30 would be fine for an all around, all-season oil.

The ';10'; refers to the viscosity at zero degrees F, and the 30 refers to the viscosity at 105 deg F. The viscosity will vary depending on the climate temperature. That's all those numbers mean. Make sure you use a good quality oil - any name brand or oil company oil (for example: Chevron).

The newer oils ';designed for older cars'; simply added a seal expander to help slow down oil leaks.

1000 to 1400 miles sounds a little premature, unless the time exceeds 6 months. A good interval would be 3 months or 3,000 miles; which ever comes first.

Want to start a mobile car repair business, but what do i do with the waste oil?

  • My friend just noticed her car ran out of motor oil.

But the couple of cars that I've seen running on Veg. oil, all had the Mod. done.

I have used the Rhino ramps for years they work great

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetai鈥?/a>What are those things called that you use to drive your car up on so that you can change your oil at home?
    Rampaphobia
    Ramps
Portable ramps? There are 2 portions. The approach ramps and platform ramps. Both will cost you a cool $1,500.00 at a discount ramp store.

There are the smaller versions that just lifts the car by a bit, and its called minilift car ramps and they cost $185.00.
    A lift ?
Car ramps. You can find them at an auto parts store or maybe even Walmart.
    car ramps
    ramps
    Car ramps. Sears.
thing a ma gig er ramps---every house hold needs them-----lol---if you buy him that------- and ----me ----i woould be happy-------------but don't forget tire blockers. or believe me you always need at least a 2 ton jack-----that's the thing---some times they have a package deal.
    ramps
    Car ramps.

    Its called a Car Lift or an Auto Lift. You can find cheaper versions that the oil shops use that make it easier for home use. Just do a google search for ';Car Lift';
ramps - go to an auto supply store, they will know what you want

Can over filling the oil in a car engine cause the pan gasket to leak?

This can happen, based on excessive pressure on the gasket. Other things that can occur are fouled spark plugs, leaking valve cover. If the overfill is extreme, the oil will circulate poorly, thus resulting in internal damage. Keep the oil between the ADD and FULL lines on the dipstick. Can over filling the oil in a car engine cause the pan gasket to leak?
Yes.Can over filling the oil in a car engine cause the pan gasket to leak?
It will only make the pan gasket leak if the gasket is already bad. since all engines except BMW are not a pressurized system the gasket won't blow out but this also depends on how much over full it is. On any car 1/2 quart should be a non issue.

However a more serious problem from this can damage the engine that is the fact that the crank shaft is not designed to dip into the oil and if it is that much too full then when accelerating the crank comes in contact with the oil and can put extra load on the engine.

Floating the valves has nothing to do with overfilling and also the top of the engine only gets the amount the pump delivers to it. so there too your valve cover gaskets won't have issues. unless you fill it so full the out spills out the fill hole, then that is just silly..
    Hi Jessie B,

    (your avatar is hauntingly cute)

    OMG! don't do it.

When i over filled my oil it caused the oil to burn and the pistons started to knock really bad.

yes it could also cause your gasket to leak.

    **************************************鈥?br>

plz pick mine 4 bst answr

    thin-Q

    u r sweet if u do.
it shouldnt. If anything it would leak out of the valve gaskets if severly overfull or it will run sluggish and burn the oil out the exhaust. Either way it is not good to overfill. NOw the question is how much overfull are we talking. 1/2 qt 1 qt you probably wont notice anything even it is not goog. Now 2,3,4 qts over then big problems. Second thing is why the oil is over did someone put too much in or is the coolant leaking into the motor. Any way no it should not cause the pan gasket to leak it doesnt really matter because when the car is off the oil already sits above where the gasket is any way with the correct amount of oil
Pan Gasket, Valve Cover Gasket, Head Gasket, Crank Seals, Etc. Oil may Aerate and starve the engine of oil and............New Engine!
Not directly, but it can make a failed gasket more apparent if the oil is enough overfilled that it is above the top of the pan. Overfilling can screw up your lubrication too.
It is probably comes from crankshaft seal.
no but overfilling the oil will float the valves. and that is not good. the pan gasket will leak from 1 of 2 things. 1. the bolts on the pan are not tight, or 2. the gasket is old and needs to be replaced.
YES IT CAN AND AFTER THE OIL PAN THE NEXT THING TO START LEAKING WILL BE THE VALVE COVER GASKETS.

  • Why does my car idle down when I remove the oil cap?

Smoke is coming from my car engine because the oil is leaking on to it.?

Every time I drive my car smoke comes from the engine, it is caused by the oil leaking on to the engine and then burning off. What could be the cause of oil leaking on to the engine. The oil does not drip on the ground.Smoke is coming from my car engine because the oil is leaking on to it.?
year make and model engine???????Smoke is coming from my car engine because the oil is leaking on to it.?
It could be leaking out of the valve cover gasket. That could cause the oil to leak onto the exhaust manifold, which is very hot and would create lots of smoke. If it is a four cylinder, this is a usually a very easy repair.
if you open the bonnet you might see where it is leakng.
blown head gasket, but you would also see smoke coming from the tail pipe if this was the case
Valve cover leaking, oil filler cap not on,pvc hose off.

What is the best oil filter and engine air filter for 2004 Saturn ION 2 sedan car and where can we buy it cost effectively?

Any one has an idea what brand filters Saturn dealership is using?

Why did my dad check the oil, water and transmission fluid in my moms car when her and I got home from church?

She is the one that drives and pays for her car so why did he check them for her when her and I got home. I still need 20 answers in all please. Why did my dad check the oil, water and transmission fluid in my moms car when her and I got home from church?
Because his condom broke nine months before you were born and he's been trying to make it up to her ever since. Why did my dad check the oil, water and transmission fluid in my moms car when her and I got home from church?
Your dad is a nice guy, he wants the best for you and your mother, he is thoughtful and kind, and women will drive cars into the ground if men are not there to take care of them.
    Because he is nice?

Because he is helping her take care of her car?

Is your mom an auto mechanic?

Your dad probably knows what he is doing?

Ask a more reasonable and specific question?

    regular check up

low engine oil, low transmission fluid can result in a possible fire

low water, can result in overheating
Regular service. I check mine every week, usually Saturday. Good idea says so in your manual. I check tire pressures too.
He's being thoughtful?? Saves money if you can catch a problem before it makes your motor blow up!
beacuse you and your mom never check the car. or just a random check.
    ?
    what??????
maybe he was being nice and did her a favor, or maybe she just doesnt know how to do it

  • My 6 years old car hasnt oil change for 2 years already, should i change it?

i just bought the car and it has low mileage 30000

the label said oil change at 32000 but i think the pervious owner didnt drive the car and the oil inside the car has already in there around 2 years

oil level still good and should i change it?My 6 years old car hasnt oil change for 2 years already, should i change it?
If you want it to last any longer...YEAH! Oil breaks down after time, that is why it needs to be changed at a certain mileage or time.My 6 years old car hasnt oil change for 2 years already, should i change it?
    Jeez! I should say so!

That oil must look like tar in there.

Get a shop to drain AND FLUSH your oil to get all the crap out of it, goodness only knows what condition the bearings and cylinder bores are in after such treatment....

How many miles can a gasoline car engine last, with 5000 mile oil changes and filter replacement?

Have seen cars go for over 400,000 miles and still going!

Quality of the engine is key, with some manufacturers its a matter of luck where as with others its a systematic thing.

The way the vehicle is used also plays a big role along with maintenance of the engine, coolant system, transmission/clutch, brakes, driving technique, loads faced by the engine, etc.How many miles can a gasoline car engine last, with 5000 mile oil changes and filter replacement?
Depends on your driving habits. 5k service is fine unless in a rough service environment. If so then 3k is best. As far as longevity, a properly serviced engine will go 200,000 plus miles. I have 190,000 on my truck so far, runs like a dream. And yes it's American made. How many miles can a gasoline car engine last, with 5000 mile oil changes and filter replacement?
should last til u turn 95...good luck
Well, that depends on the car as much as the maintenance, but I'd think you'd get at least a couple hundred thousand miles in the worst scenario.

I'd not worry much about ';severe service,'; which honestly, is rare -- certainly far more rare than the oil-change nazis would like us to think. I think 5000 miles is an outstanding compromise between the severe service and typical maintenance intervals, and 5000 miles makes it really easy to remember, without needing little sticky things on the window, so you are more likely to actually stick to it.
A good long time. the oils today are made to hold their polymers in long strands longer and the filters can keep working at least that long. There is a misconception about oil in new cars. The carbon that polluted the internals with lead etc, are not in the fuels today . filters are better, oil stays cleaner and holds its additive package longer . My 2006 Honda calls for 6 months or 5000 miles for severe service and with pure synthetic oil 1 year or 10, 000 miles as normal. go figure.
it should be able to go at least a few hundred thousand miles, today's cars last a lot longer than the older ones used to last, but with real good maintenance on it you should be able to wear it out, good luck hope this helps.
do you do city driving with alot of shut downs and start ups?

or long drives?read my manual for a car bought 2 1/2 years ago new and it said(extreme driving, 5 miles or less, every 3000 miles) if trip is over that, then every 7500 miles, the oil industry has improved the oil to where this can be done. just follow the recommondations the manufacter states.
3,000 mile oil change is a myth created by the maintenance people and dealerships to make more money. Most owners manuals say 5,000 miles - unless you live in a rough environment - extreme heat, cold, wind or sand.
IT DEPENDS ON THE WAY THAT YOU DRIVE BUT IT COULD GO FOR A VERY LONG TIME.

If you could, would you increase your car's oil changes to 10,000 mile intervals?

Europe already has extended oil change intervals, why not the US?If you could, would you increase your car's oil changes to 10,000 mile intervals?
Am already doing it at 15000, with filter every 5000, using Mobil Synthetic oil, ends up being less expensive, less hastle as not crawling around under car every 3000 miles, driving a 86 tercel, with over 100000 on it, use it in my motorcycle, garden tractor, snowblower......If you could, would you increase your car's oil changes to 10,000 mile intervals?
No way! If it would mean that I could get another 200,000 out of my engine by changing the oil every 3,000 miles, I'll pay for the oil, the Brit's can blow their 10,000 mile oil changes out their bonnets!

Update: You asked a question, I answered. If you didn't want other people's opinions, don't ask questions. Everyone on Yahoo is not going to agree with your point of view. Maybe you should be prepared for that next time.
yes, it's a pain to have it done so often
Depends on how you drive. Current GM cars have Oil Life Maintenance System that lets the computer determine when to change your oil based on each person's driving habits and conditions. I'm currently going from 7,000 to 8,000 miles between oil changes with my Chevy Cobalt.
modern conventional oils are good for at least 5000 mi. in a clean running engine. full synthetic oils easily go 15000 mi (personal experience). 3000 mi oil changes are just a waste of oil.
Of course. Ideally we would like to never have to change our fluids. But the proven facts are that oil change intervals are necessary. The type of driving, the vehicle and engine combination, and the service factors of the fluids themselves dictate the recommendations for how long a particular oil will provide the needed protection.
I've seen some people do studies on 3,000 3 month oil changes compared with extended drains...., sometimes wear was less with the extended drain!!!!, modern conventional oils can easily do 5,000 or 6 months in a mechanically sound engine (btw, not the sludge prone engines)

Alot more with syn......, most americans need to see the light...... that 3k 3 month oil change is a waste of money.....
My car actually tells me when to change the oil due to engine revolutions. I've gone to 7,500 miles before, but I decided to change it more often due to the fact that even though the oil is still good, the filter might not be.
I would change it to 20,000 miles. That way your oil is always relatively new and you never have to worry about your oil going bad if you can't make it to a place that changes oil. Not to mention your car will last longer if the oil is always new. I am not sure why Europe has extended oil intervals. It could be the engine's or it could be the oil.

The service engineer at chevy put 2T oil in my optra and now the car is loosing power how advisable is it ?

I have a chevrolet optra 1.6 and after the servicing i had some missing problems for which the service engineer put the 2t pre mixed oil in the fuel tank and thereafter i started getting the knocking problem and today the car almost lost power and has now gone to the service station for a major checkup can some tell me in details the ill effects of having 2T oil in petrol for such cars ?The service engineer at chevy put 2T oil in my optra and now the car is loosing power how advisable is it ?
well sounds to me like he pulled a vacuum line off or a plug wire off but i do not think it is the t2 that is giving you the prob. unless it loosened some dirt in the tank and clogged the fuel line. or filter but i think it not that bad.

  • How can you make your diesel car run off half diesel half oil / fat?

how and wich oil / fat do you use? used or new?How can you make your diesel car run off half diesel half oil / fat?
There are many internet forums dedicated to this topic, you might want to hunt them out

    Summary is:

You need to use an old engine, not a common rail

You need a heater aroudn the fuel pipe

You need to increase the fuel pressure

You need to throw in a tank of diesel every so often to keep the pipes clean.

If you do that, you can run it on 100% used cooking fat.

    problems:

Cars can be slow to start

You need a source of oil and somewhere to keep it.

They stink of fish and chips when they are cold

Its not a long term solution becasue as more people convert the supply of cookign oil will dry up and prices will go up.How can you make your diesel car run off half diesel half oil / fat?
bio diesel is widely available now. just fill up as normal I have a new fiesta tdci which runs great on it, only downfall is that it smells like a fish and chip shop when you stand behind it. Still get 60mpg and it costs 85p per plitre
i once did a masive answer to a question like this.

you have to take loads into account, you cant jsut used any old sunflower oil and expect it to work.
Depends on the vehicle: email me some details %26amp; I'll help you out.

I have a Nissan Terrano II 2.7TD running on 60% diesel / 40% svo (straight vegetable oil-new, unused stuff). Runs great!

I just had my oil changed and now my car is running hot it did not overheat but my red light came on,Gage hot?

Recently I had a new water pump installed as well as a new radiator not too long before, it has never given me a problem like this. Two days ago I had my oil changed, could that do it?I just had my oil changed and now my car is running hot it did not overheat but my red light came on,Gage hot?
When you had the radiator and water pump changed, did they replace the thermostat?

If not, it's likely the termostat is stuck closed, causing your engine to run hot. Replace the thermostat ASAP!I just had my oil changed and now my car is running hot it did not overheat but my red light came on,Gage hot?
Have you checked the fluids? I mean, given the info you have here, yeah, it could do it. I've seen people go to lube centers where they either left the old filter gasket on or forgot to put the new one on. Check your fluids. It could be a sending unit if they're all good.
';That 'Red Light' you are talking about is (In some Cars) an Excessive Heat Warning Light set to come on before it Overheats.'; Was the Water Pump Leaking or Making noise? When you Changed the Radiator was the Coolant Discolored? Sounds like you need a Complete Cooling System Service. New Thermostat after Complete System Flush/Boil Out, Check Condition of All Hoses %26amp; Clamps ';Replace if Needed';. Check Radiator %26amp; A/C Fans for proper Operation %26amp; Cycling. Is the Engine Relitively Clean, Road Grim with add to heat problems.

NOTE; ';Coolant'; 50-50 Mixture of Clean Water %26amp; Anti-Freeze, used All Year Round!
no, but I would take it back to the place you had your oil changed and tell them.

Putting in different brands of motor oil in a car, will that effect engine performance?

Does it matter which motor oil brand to buy-Mobil, quaker state....Putting in different brands of motor oil in a car, will that effect engine performance?
In an emergency situation, it is more important to have oil than to worry about mixing brands. Outside of that, the general rule of thumb is not to do so, because difference companies use different additive chemistries, and those chemistries *might* react badly. This was much more of an issue 20 or 30 years ago. Nowadays, getting an API service rating SM, you'd have to be a magician to use different additives from everyone else, so the difference is mostly in tweaking the amounts of additives. Not saying they are all the same, just less of an issue than it once was, and you should still try to choose a brand and stick to it. As another answer noted, if you want to change brands, do so at oil change time.

Oh, it is OK to mix synthetic and mineral oil, or synth-blends: a synth blend *is* a mix of synthetic and mineral. Just try to keep it in the same brand family.

Also, mixing grades of oil is not a big deal, just make sure you use the grade oil recommended by the engineers who designed the engine, not some weekend mechanic who has dispensed the same advice for 40 years. Engines have changed, and the engineers know the tolerances of the engine better than the mechanics...at least for the first 100,000 miles...Putting in different brands of motor oil in a car, will that effect engine performance?
Different brands of oil will not affect the performance, but it best not to mix normal oil with synthetic. Also make sure you put in the correct grade of oil to suit your engine.
Don't mix different types - ie

Don't mix mineral oil with synthetic or semi-synthetic.

Don't mix Duckhams with anything else.

Usually mixing different brands of the same type and spec will be OK.
No, switching brands when doing oil changes is fine. The only no-no I've been told is not to mix different viscosities (doing so changes it) even though I've read (somewhere else) some people do it.
dont matter what brand and most of time dont matter what weight.. i use 10w40 with all my cars have since the 70's

Is it ok to put 2050 oil in a car that's supposed to have 2030?

My car burns oil really fast.. someone told me that 2050 would fix the problem and not run out as quick.. just wanted to check and make sure this was true.. and it wouldn't mess my car up.Is it ok to put 2050 oil in a car that's supposed to have 2030?
well there is no such thing as a 20w30 oil. And for the 20w50 it will not fix anything. It is thicker and may slow the burning but it is terrible to use in the winter. If you live where it is cold then do not use it. And it is so thick you will notice less power the engine has to work hard to pump the thick oil. Try using a high mileage oil and see if that helps the burning slow down. It has an additive package that reconditions the valve seals and helps the engine to not burn soo much oil.Is it ok to put 2050 oil in a car that's supposed to have 2030?
if your car is burning oil that much i think its a bit late to worry if it will mess it up. But not 20w50 wont make that much difference but you sure it uses 20/30 to start with ???
20w50 might help, but it depends on why it is burning oil. Depending on what the problem is, you might not notice a difference. Either way, it won't damage anything unless you start it up cold and rev it up. The thicker oil won't flow quite so fast when it's cold. Sometimes, those engine oil treatments help a little.
you use a 20w-50 in an engine that calls for (beings there is no such thing as 20w-30 I will use 10w30) 10w-30. you will prob starve the engine of oil and the oil will not circulate everywhere in the engine that its suppose to go. you might be able to use a 5w-40 or a 10w-40. its thicker and might be able to be used in place of 10w-30. what does your owners manual calls for as far as oil weights?

so best bet is to either rebuild the engine or get a new engine or get a new car. that would be a temp fix and it will get worse.
I've found that it's true. The 20W50 doesn't burn as fast. Because it is so heavy and thick it takes longer to circulate in your engine when it's cold. So best you let it warm up a bit before driving it on cold mornings.
there right about not burning as fast but if you live in a cold climate the heavier oil makes your car harder to start and takes longer to lubricate your engine in cold weather thus wearing out your parts inside the engine quicker.

Why is my car going through so much oil?

I have to put it 2 quarts a month. It doesn't have any leaks so I have no idea why it goes through so much oil. Its a Chevy Prism Lsi 98.Why is my car going through so much oil?
typically as a car gets older and racks up mileage, wear occurs and gaps in the piston rings grow larger, allowing more oil to seap thru. try a higher viscosity grade oil. check the piston compressions. look around your engine to see if you have a gasket leak. check the floor underneath your car. make sure your oil pan bolt is secure. Why is my car going through so much oil?
The Chevy Prism isn't really a car. It's a giant pencil sharpener with seats. Since it only weighs like 300 pounds, it won't qualify for cash for clunkers. I'd just take it out and set it on fire. But if you insist on keeping it, you might start by looking at the valve covers. It's a common place to leak. So is the intake. Check the oil pan. Make sure the plug is in tight and that it's not leaking from the pan gasket. If it's leaking out anywhere else, chances are, it's not worth fixing. If there's no leaks, it might have bad rings. It's DEFINITELY not worth fixing if it has bad rings. Does it smoke at all? Also, how many miles are on it? How many miles are you putting on it? If you're putting 1,000 miles on it for every quart of oil it goes through, that's not too bad. You could even try using a heavier weight oil. Put some Marvel Mystery Oil in there. We need a few more details. I still think you should just set it on fire though.
Ok what you got is another word for geo witch is the worlds biggest peace ok this is how you fix this ok find a dump park it and walk away it will save you money. Shitys break down allot its known fact that chevy has the most in stock parts hell they even got smart and made it own shops called goodwrinch. sears even into that ****. Best thing for it is to dukes of hazerd that bad boy if it can make it up the ramp lil 3 cylinders.
Does it smoke? Either you are burning oil through your piston rings (It will smoke), or you have a blown head gasket and the oil is getting into your radiator fluid. Check your oil dipstick for water.

Also, are you using the proper weight oil...

For older cars, try putting in 20w50... thats what I use in older cars, it seals the rings better and burns a lot less. Maybe even try a bottle of STP (aka motor honey).
bc ur car sux... get a new 1 sell this 1 n say nothings wrong with it.
some GM cars have weak oil seals. maybe yours broke open?
you have a leak somewhere or you mite need an oil change!!!
    i don't know.

I check the oil in my wife's car at least once a day.

Seals blow out, leaks develop, and it's always better safe than sorry.

Well depending on how far your grandmother lives maybe he did it to see how much oil was used to get there. Maybe theres no reason at all and he just felt like checking the oil. People get bored sometimes
May be he was looking to see if any one else had been oiling up some else in the car.
because it should be done regularly

i have seen you ask this question a few weeks ago
  • microsoft works
  • How much oil should you put in a car. Is there a such thing as too much.?

My car is a mitubushi eclispe (smaller car)How much oil should you put in a car. Is there a such thing as too much.?
4 to 4 1/2 quarts full. Over full oil may foam up and the engine will not get oil because of air. Too much oil will build up pressure and blow out through seals, IE; Pan Gasket, Head Gasket, Valve Cover Gasket, Timing Cover Gasket.

Changing and adding oil, if engine calls for 4Q. add 3 1/2, run engine for 15 seconds, check oil on dipstick %26amp; Then add to full line. (Two Lines on Dipstick, Bottom line is add, Top line is Full)How much oil should you put in a car. Is there a such thing as too much.?
Open the glove box, take out the owner's Manual and see what it says.
I believe the correct level is usually marked on the dipstick. Your manual will tell you how much oil to put in and where the filler cap is.
Well, off-hand I will guess that the Eclipse requires somewhere between 4.7 and 5 quarts of oil depending upon whether you also change the oil filter at the oil change (the empty filter requiring a little more oil to fill). Still, this is just a guess and you are best off looking in your manual or calling the dealer.

Now as to whether there can be too much oil, the answer is yes. Too much oil can increase oil pressure beyond the deigned limitations for seal, and can submerge turning parts in the lower end (crankshaft for example) creating too much resistance, foaming, etc.
how much depends on exact engine and such, parts store can tell u, too much, yes, you can over filling can cause hydro lock ( your motor might turn over, might not) as in over pressurizing, not a chance, your oil pump is only going to put out so much pressure , it does not gain pressure from just having more fluid in resevoir(oil pan)
