Can over filling the oil in a car engine cause the pan gasket to leak?

This can happen, based on excessive pressure on the gasket. Other things that can occur are fouled spark plugs, leaking valve cover. If the overfill is extreme, the oil will circulate poorly, thus resulting in internal damage. Keep the oil between the ADD and FULL lines on the dipstick. Can over filling the oil in a car engine cause the pan gasket to leak?
Yes.Can over filling the oil in a car engine cause the pan gasket to leak?
It will only make the pan gasket leak if the gasket is already bad. since all engines except BMW are not a pressurized system the gasket won't blow out but this also depends on how much over full it is. On any car 1/2 quart should be a non issue.

However a more serious problem from this can damage the engine that is the fact that the crank shaft is not designed to dip into the oil and if it is that much too full then when accelerating the crank comes in contact with the oil and can put extra load on the engine.

Floating the valves has nothing to do with overfilling and also the top of the engine only gets the amount the pump delivers to it. so there too your valve cover gaskets won't have issues. unless you fill it so full the out spills out the fill hole, then that is just silly..
Hi Jessie B,

(your avatar is hauntingly cute)

OMG! don't do it.

When i over filled my oil it caused the oil to burn and the pistons started to knock really bad.

yes it could also cause your gasket to leak.

u r sweet if u do.
it shouldnt. If anything it would leak out of the valve gaskets if severly overfull or it will run sluggish and burn the oil out the exhaust. Either way it is not good to overfill. NOw the question is how much overfull are we talking. 1/2 qt 1 qt you probably wont notice anything even it is not goog. Now 2,3,4 qts over then big problems. Second thing is why the oil is over did someone put too much in or is the coolant leaking into the motor. Any way no it should not cause the pan gasket to leak it doesnt really matter because when the car is off the oil already sits above where the gasket is any way with the correct amount of oil
Pan Gasket, Valve Cover Gasket, Head Gasket, Crank Seals, Etc. Oil may Aerate and starve the engine of oil and............New Engine!
Not directly, but it can make a failed gasket more apparent if the oil is enough overfilled that it is above the top of the pan. Overfilling can screw up your lubrication too.
It is probably comes from crankshaft seal.
no but overfilling the oil will float the valves. and that is not good. the pan gasket will leak from 1 of 2 things. 1. the bolts on the pan are not tight, or 2. the gasket is old and needs to be replaced.
YES IT CAN AND AFTER THE OIL PAN THE NEXT THING TO START LEAKING WILL BE THE VALVE COVER GASKETS.
