Does having your car up on ramps not allow all oil to drain?

also is it better to fill your oil filter with oil? or to run your car and add oil onece the filter is full?Does having your car up on ramps not allow all oil to drain?
it depends on the shape of your pan and the oil passages in your engine. You could always drain it and measure the amount of oil and check that to it's capacity. Always fill your filter if it is a Vertical mount. In fact the diesel trucks with the 2+ quart filters would dry the pump on start up if you didn't fill the filter. drain your oil fill the engine just short of the recommended cap. then start the engine check to see if you have oil pressure and then shut it off. Wait 5 min and check the level.Does having your car up on ramps not allow all oil to drain?
Having your car up on ramps will have the oil pan at a tilted angle and will likely not allow all of the oil to drain, I'm not sure how much would be left in the pan, but it's probably best to do it on a flat surface to be safe. I've always just run the car and added oil once the filter is full, but I can't imagine filling the filter with oil would harm anything, its probably just unnecessary.
IF having your car on ramps causes the drain plug to be at a lower point, then it helps.

The object is to get the plug at the lowest point.

Drain plugs vary in their location on the pan. Some are just in the bottom somewhere, usually closer to one end or the other. Some are to one side, or the rear or front, and some pans have a ';last drop'; ditch (pressed/ cast into the pan) in which they are placed, so with the car level, most oil will drain out. Ramps may or may not help or hinder oil exiting these.

Of my 2 cars here, one has the drain on the rear, the other on the front. I drain them both on my inclined driveway, one front up and the other rear up. It definitely helps get the most from them.

So really. it depends on the individual car.

It is not possible to drain EVERY drop of oil when draining. Some will, and must, remain.
draining it on an incline will cause a small amount not to be drained out, unless you jack it up in the front and the drain plug is in the rear of the pan, or vice versa. that will allow all the oil to run out the plug end.

it's always better to fill your filter with oil prior to installation, but not mandatory. it just lessens the time required to fill up the filter and build up system pressure. once you run it, shut it off and verify the correct oil level, full cold mark. add or remove as neccessary
No, it doesn't. Your car's oil pan is shaped to drain while the car is sitting level.

As for filling the filter, it is not necessary. It is recommended that you run the car for a few minutes before a change. That will coat all bearings and surfaces with oil and protect them on startup. The exception would be if you have a diesel engine with an extra large filter.
its personal preference. i personally fill the oil filter with oil and oil the seal on the top to eliminate air pockets in your filter. also ramps do allow most oil to drain, to keep the front elevated a little bit helps a bit to drain.
most drain plugs are in the back of the pan so putting it on ramps puts the oil more to the back
