Why does the the OIL LAMP go on my car?

My honda 92 accord lampwwent on today and when I pulled over to check it under the hood and the metal hanger looking thing said it was empty on oil. but How if I jus did the oil and filter change about 513 miles ago. The concete at my house is not showing evidence of oil leakage. I put about 4 !/2 bottles of oil so it cant be that i didnt put enough oil on the change . why is it that there is no oil in the pan? Im really confused? Why does the the OIL LAMP go on my car?
it may have a bad sending unit on it,,that will make the light go on,,and there wont be nothing wrong with it,,id check the oil,and make sure its OK,,and if it is,, you probably have a sending unit going bad on it,,i,own a repair shop,,and do this for a living,,good luck i hope this help,s.,,PS if your loosing that much oil there is a problem somewhere and you need to find it,and real soon i have never seen one loose that much oil before,in that less of miles.its either smoking or leaking somewhere it has to be,,good luck. Why does the the OIL LAMP go on my car?
when the oil light comes on it dosent mean you need oil it means their is a problem with the oil pump
You are either leaking the oil or blowing it into the coolant. If you are burning that much oil in that short of a period of time, you are headed for an engine failure really fast.
first you do not know enough about cars to change your oil.

most oil filters if not put on properly will leak a lot of oil in a short time.

the dip stick tells the tail that the oil is gone some ware.
When you topped off the oil did the lamp go out or stay lit? If you just changed the oil You might have checked the oil before you started the car, and the oil filter was empty and that's where your oil went when you started it. How many quarts did it take when you added oil the second time?.Check your owners manual for maintenance and capacities. You may have just under filled it.
Not only are you confused, you are mechanically retarded. Go to a mechanic. Your car's life depends on it!
You should check the radiator and see if there is oil in there. You could have a cracked head, or a oil seal is out.
When the oil reaches below specified sensor level, in the reservoir the light turns ON. Based on the explanation, car is burning lot of oil during the driving which results in oil loss. You should not add more oil in the engine than the level specified on the dipstick. Check the oil level in morning when is car is resting [engine turned off] on a level surface. Make sure that the dipstick is going down to the correct base. Use correct viscosity of oil recommended by the manufacturer with SAE logo on the oil container to minimize oil consumption and preserve engine life.

You need a tune up for the car to correct excessive oil consumption.
dude you got problems
You are probably burning oil if you put oil in the car check the dipstick. If after a time the oil goes low u will need a new engine

If you still have enough oil in your engine and the light comes on it means u have a bad oil sending unit
Whoa! It sounds like your engine is losing a huge amount of oil somehow.

If there's no oil stain on your driveway, it's probably leaking out somewhere, maybe thru a blown gasket or seal.

Or the oil could be burning. Does your car blow a lot of bluish smoke out the tailpipe?

In any case, I think you have a serious problem.

I recommend that you 1st top off the oil, if you haven't already, then get it to a mechanic ASAP. I just hope it's not too late to save the engine.
did you reset your maintenance light? if you didnt do that your light will come on.
