is that possible? It really looks like the engine oil? Help?My car was leaking an oil looking substance, my mechanic says it's the water pump?
Oil is either going to be a dark brown or black color when it's on the ground and on your finger tips. Radiator coolant will be either green(for the older cars), or it will be orange(for the newer cars). But wait! IF by chance the stuff is a mocha latte looking color, then you've got either a blown head gasket somewhere(your car can have up to five, depending on what kind of car you have) OR a crack in the compression block which is leaking oil and coolant together. Best to use your finger to check to see if the substance on the ground is any of the above colors. If it's coolant, then have the hoses checked first. Then the pump and thermostat. If it's oil, have the engine cleaned and start looking for the oil leaks around the seals. If the stuff is mixed, find a repair/ rebuild shop for your engine. it's certianly possible. antifreeze is what is usually leaked from a bad water pump, but it often has an oily sheen to it. additionally, antifreeze that hasn't been changed frequently will be very dark, even brown and look even more like motor oil. if your car uses the orange or red antifreeze, this is even more noticeable.
Your ';water'; pump is moving coolant through the system. When it leaks, the coolant/anti-freeze is oily looking. Take a look at the color of your coolant. There are some that are orange versus the standard green color. If the colors match, he is most likely right. Lastly, do the simple checking of your coolant. Are you low on your coolant?
Model, Year %26amp; Mileage? Is the Car Overheating? Are you low on Coolant or the Coolant look Brownish/Black %26amp; Oily? Possible Badly Blown Head Gasket that has Contaminated the coolant and now Destroyed the Seals in the Water Pump. Is the Leak at the Water Pump Area?
if it,s oil then it can,t be the water pump or it would be green stuff(anti- freeze). it could be a valve pan gasket or around the intake.
