How often should i change the oil in my car?

I drive a 98 mustang and i drive about 80 miles a dayHow often should i change the oil in my car?
The oil in your engine is the life blood of your car. Depending on the type of oil you run in your engine will depend on how often you should change it. If you use conventional oil (non synthetic) then you should change the oil and oil filter every 3000 miles. Driving 80 miles a day regularly, I would switch to a synthetic oil. Synthetic oil will last longer than conventional oil. Synthetic oil is just better. You can stretch your oil changes out to every 5000 to 6000 miles. Here are some little known facts about it. If you are running conventional oil and wish to switch to synthetic. You must perform a engine flush. Its not hard and will save you much grief in the future. All you do is purchase a bottle of engine flush from your local auto parts store. I have used the Prestone brand and have been very satisfied with it. You add the flush to the engine oil BEFORE you start the oil change. You then run the engine for about 10 to 15 minutes. Next you proceed with the oil change as usual. Also, make sure you purchase an oil filter that is rated for synthetic oil. Few people know that what the filter element is made of, makes all the difference in the world when it comes to how effective the filter will clean your oil. If you use a filter who's filtering element is made of natural fibers, with synthetic oil... the filter will not clean the oil very well at all. It is best to use a filter with a synthetic element with synthetic oil. My prefarance is Wix. Wix filters also have what is called a check valve in every filter they make. This valve will close when you turn off your engine, thus holding a filters full amount of oil for when you start the engine again. That small amount of oil is released when you start your engine and is readily available to lubricate your engine upon start up. Engines using filters not equipped with a check valve, do not get this vital shot of oil at start up and suffer wear to vital internal parts. Your Mustang will take a Wix filter # 51516. I know because I drove one myself for years. Plus if you have over 100,000 miles on your Pony car then its time to up grade to Synthetic oil anyway. I hope this helps. How often should i change the oil in my car?
every 3000 miles i do mine at 2500 oil is cheap compared to the engine also change your filter at the same time tranny fluid every 50k radiator every other yr also check your rearend every time you change tour tranny fluid
Every 3000 miles
Rule of thumb, every 3K miles. But check the recommended schedule in your owners manual.
Every 3000 miles checking periodically in between to make sure the level is right.
Every 3 months or every 3,000 miles =]

What does your owners manual say about the subject?
