Does anyone own a car that runs on Vegetable Oil?

If so, what are the pros and cons? I commute 450 miles a week and gasoline is expensive. I am currently getting 32 mpg.Does anyone own a car that runs on Vegetable Oil?
Yes, but you have to find a way to get the Vegetable oil. Many restaurants are willing to get rid of their cooking oil and will be willing to give it to you, but you'll have to work that out with a restaurant.

If you're looking to use vegetable oil, remember vegetable oil not used from a restaurant, it's not cheap. Vegetable oil typically runs about $7/gallon. So don't expect to get the oil from your local grocery store.

Vegetable oil only works with Diesel vehicles. Currently only two manufacturers make diesels in the US. VW and Mercedes.

You'll need a conversion kit.

Oh and the oil filters that are used to filter the oil before it gets to the engine aren't cheap.

Mileage varies, but most will do between 30-40mpg on diesel.

Oh and though adequate, it's a diesel, not a race car. Diesels can give you a lot of pulling power, but not a lot of speed typically. The newer TDI and even newer HDI(not sold in the US) are much better, but still feels like there's a little lag compared to a gasoline vehicle.

And you'll smell like french fries!Does anyone own a car that runs on Vegetable Oil?
It runs the same as it does on regular diesel.

The vegetable oil is thicker and not as combustable as Diesel. The car is started with regular diesel and switched over to burn vegetable oil about 10 minutes into the process, once the vegetable oil is warmed up. Report Abuse

As long as the vegetable oil stays warm, you can continue using it. So if you stop at like the mall for an hour, typically I don't need to switch back to the diesel from an oil base, but in the mornings you can't get the car started with just the vegetable oil. Report Abuse

Other than that, the car runs like it was on regular diesel. And nice thing is if there's no diesel station near by, you can keep the car going if there's a grocery store near by. Though paying for vegetable oil at grocery store prices, now that's highway robbery! :p Report Abuse

If you could find a car that runs on stupidity, yours would never run out of fuel. Report Abuse

yes. kits run between $2,000 and $4,000. There is a simple heating and filtering process to go through with the oil.
lol i didnt even know there was such a thing...that would be nice as hell
