I don't know much about cars and I don't have much luck with them. Will this oil pan give me a lot of grief, or should I not bother with this investment.I'm looking to buy a used car. the only issue is the car needs a new oil pan. Is this a serious issue?
It will cause you a lot of grief, don't bother investing in the car unless you can get a written warranty from the seller.I'm looking to buy a used car. the only issue is the car needs a new oil pan. Is this a serious issue?
Don't bother with this car. If it needs a new oil pan, that means it probably bottomed out and cracked the pan and leaked out all the oil. If the previous owner wasn't aware of this, it's possible that the engine might have been damaged when all the oil leaked out of the car and there wasn't enough lubrication. Save yourself the hassle and get a used car without any defects from the get-go.
If I was you I wouldn't take that risk, depending on the condition of the old oil pan, anything could have possibly happened. Meaning the engine could be damaged now. If you do go on with buying it, this could mean buying a new engine, on top of labor work from the mechanic who fixes it. I hope this helps, but I would definitely would think about looking at a different car.
It depends how bad the leak is.If the oil all leaked out then the motor won't last long at all. I guess it boils down to if you know the seller or not. If you do and you can trust what they say is true, then it is an easy and cheap fix to replace an oil pan and can potentially be a good buy. You get what you pay for. If you are in question that much, then take the car to a mechanic before you buy it.
If the car is nice, an oil pan should be an easy thing to replace. I think it just bolts on underneath.......just be sure of the rest of the car!!! See ';Oil Circulation'; here, and the 2nd picture....the bottom of it is the oil pan:

here is what you should do get some brake cleaner and drain the oil completely and if you have a crack and its clearly visible then you can clean it really good and dry it and JB weld it i have dont it it works great
