I drove 20 miles before fluid levels were corrected. What damage could have been done do my car? What would be best way to diagnose? How long could it take for damage to show up?A lube shop drained my transmission fluid then added more oil to my car so I had no tran fluid and double oil.
which lube fast oil change have you went?
cheap deals make you into cheaper troubles my friends!!
No transmission lubricant and double amount of oil!! after the service...this is real deep-dub .
I mean do not go back that place for fix your car again!!A lube shop drained my transmission fluid then added more oil to my car so I had no tran fluid and double oil.
if you made it home you should be good as long as it is corrected. if the trans was cooked you would not move the car, everything would be siezed up. as long as the motor oil level is good you wont push out any seals or cause damage to the motor. very lucky lube shop that your car is fine i hope.
If anything would have been damaged you would be on a car lot right now or stranded on the road side.
If all the fluid were drained from the transmission then the car would not move. I doubt any damage was done to the engine or transmission. What you may have noticed was that the engine was a bit more sluggish than usual and may have smoked. It is good that it was corrected quickly. What happens when you overfill the engine crankcase is that the crankshaft now has to spin through all that extra oil and hence a large drag is now being placed upon it. The crankcase pressure may increase and start to push oil out of various gaskets. Since you had it corrected quickly then don't worry about it.
Well if damage were done, I would think you wouold have seen some sign by now. If it ws truly double oil it would have frothed up, wouldn't pump and your engine would have been shot pretty quickly. If u have auto trans it won't move with no fluid. If you are still driving now it's probably ok, just listen for engine knocks.
I don't think you'll find anybody on Yahoo answers who ever did this once, let alone with a statistical sample of cars.
Be that as it may, we can all guess. You really should tell us what kind of car it was. Be very specific about the engine and transmission.
auto trans? if so the vehicle wouldnt move at all with the trans fluid that low. they trans wont engage at all when they are just a few quarts low. as for the oil, the only dmagae would be blow out a seal/gasket, if it didnt do that its ok.
If you are using a good synthetic oil then you should be OK for just 20 miles - even with regular oil really. It is good that you caught it so quick. I would be more concerned with the excess motor oil than the trans with less but it is up to guess what repercussions could follow.
well i would take it to a trans shop and get them to check the trans out to see if it is damaged. if there is damage i would make the lube shop pay for it.
