What happens to the car engine if there is no oil in it? I just notice a leak got it fixed, but Im nervous.?

I have a 2005 mazda 6. Went to get an oil change(2 wks ago), did not notice it was leaking til this weekend since my car felt werid. I checke d the oil and it was out! Went back to the same place and they put anew gasket in. Is it their responsibility to check for leaks? What happens to the car engine if there is no oil in it? If you run an engine completely out of oil, yes, you will damage your engine. The first things to go will be the bearings. Once a bearing loses lubricant, it will seal around the crank and at least, score the journals. At worse, it will seize the block. If it's neglect on the shop, they are responsible for it.What happens to the car engine if there is no oil in it? I just notice a leak got it fixed, but Im nervous.?
Honestly, it messes up alot of things. I know because i did it once and then almost messed up my camaro b/c of not changing it frequently. On my first car, the engine just made a horrible rough sound and pretty much seized up and wouldn't start again. Now on my camaro (98) I had to tare into the crankshaft and replace it along with the lifters and whole nine yards, very spendy $$$$$ and time consuming, especially when you let someone else other than a mechanic do it. I wouldnt suggest it. I ended up spending over 1500. in just parts and found out once it was all done, it wasn't done right!!! So i had to buy a used engine, (1000) and have a mechanic put it in, (400). Thank God i had just got my tax return other wise i would be taking a bus. But becareful with used engines, its been about 6mo now and I think one of the lifters is bad on this one. IDK, but good luck, dont worry yourself until you know for sure, and dont spend money you dont have to. GOOD LUCK
It won't be the first time a fast lube joint has had to buy a new motor! They even have places that have the boss check the drain plug and put a dab of paint on it and the oil pan. I had to laugh,on one car that was all that was holding the drain plug from falling out, no one had tightened the drain plug with a wrench, it was only finger tight.

I keep telling people you get what you pay for, at least at a dealer you get important updates for the vehicle, records to help when it comes to warranty work, etc.

I would never go to a mechanic on Saturday for a lube and oil, wheel alignments, or anything for that matter. Any mechanic that is good gets their weekends off and the trainees get the shty hours.

Write a certified letter stating your case and hold on to your reciepts for the attorney.
ITS SIMPLE TO PUT YOUR MIND AT EASE... REV THE ENGINE TO BOUT 4 OR 5 THOUSAND RPM WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT, IF YOU HEAR A ROUGH CLONKING SOUND OR SEE BLUE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE EXHAUST THERS SOME DAMAGE TO EITHER THE BEARING CAPS, CRANK OR RINGS THAT WIL NEED WORK ON QUITE URGENTLY IF IT RUNS SMOOTH AND NO SMOKE YOUR IN THE GREEN. GOOD LUCK
Sure it is. However, they will only give it a quick once over. If nothing is readily apparent, then they say it is fine.

If you run an engine without oil, there is a good chance that the engine will seize and lock up. Hopefully you caught yours before any serious damage was done.

good luck
boom happens...
There's not much you can do about the car now. Just make sure you pay attention to how it runs and keep the oil fresh. You should have noticed some leaking oil if it's was completely out, that's a lot of oil. Pay more attention to your car!

As for the the leak. It depends on where it was leaking from, but he shop is not responsible for reporting leaks. If it was leaking from the the fuel filter or oil drain plug, then it's their fault, and I would consider confronting them and possibly even making them rebuild your engine.
