Alright first of I have zero knowledge about motor vehicles. It's actually quite sad, how little i know. Ok so here is the situation I drive a 2001 Ford Taurus, the red oil light on the bottom right of the dash was slashing when i braked fast. I check my oil and it looks like there is absolutely none in there. Where do i fill it up and what type of oil do I use? thanks for the help ,I know nothing.I think my car is low on oil, what do i do in this situation?
there is a cap on the valve pan. you can see it as soon as you open the hood. it says engine oil on it. park on a level surface, raise the hood, take the cap off and put in a quart of oil at a time and keep checking it. if it,s still low then keep filling it until it reads full on the dip stick. by the way it says engine oil on the stick too. just pull the stick out, wipe it off and put it back in, pull it out again and read the stick.I think my car is low on oil, what do i do in this situation?
Oil weight should be on the oil fill cap it should say for example
( 5W-10 ) that's the weight of the oil and there is where it should go . Add just one quart at a time most cars light up when they need one quart of oil as a safety precaution for the engine . it should be fine . after the first quart the light will take a while to turn off sometimes you even have to take it for a spin for the sensor to adjust if still on then proceed to add another quart.
Even though majority are telling u how to find out wat type of oil and where to put it DON'T do it. Take it to a quick lube or someplace that do oil changes unless u want to buy a new car stop driving it until u take it to get a oil change. if u don't know who do oil changes look in the phone book or search for one on the internet do it ASAP.
There should be a cap marked ';OIL'; or ';ENGINE OIL'; somewhere in the engine compartment. When in doubt, use a 10W-30 oil. But check the owner's manual, if you have it available.
Oil weight should be on the oil fill cap. Add just one quart at a time. you're probably 3 qts. low. DON'T drive the car for an oil change or anywhere 'til you get the oil level where it needs to be!
go to a quick lube place and have it changed, ASAP
