If the Oil Pressure Sender in my car is malfuntioning?

and i keep on getting from time to time LOW INCORRECT oil pressure readings even though the oil is at correct levels, can I continue driving my car without fixing it? Would it be equivalent to driving a car that has a broken fuel level sensor? For instance, even if you don't know the correct amount of fuel in your tank; your not doing damage to the car.If the Oil Pressure Sender in my car is malfuntioning?
If the oil light is coming on There are only two possibilities: (1) The oil pressure switch is bad or (2) The oil pump is bad. To determine which of the two is the culprit I would replace the oil pressure switch first and see if that takes care of the light; If it does not, you are going to need the expertise of a good mechanic, and be prepared for a costly repair. If the Oil Pressure Sender in my car is malfuntioning?
How do you know if your oil pump is putting out the proper pressure? If it isn't this would cause the low readings.
Ironball, and Studmuffin both have some good points. however in some of the newer vehicles, the car's computer changes the fuel rate to compensate giving you bad fuel mileage (for the car). by not changing out the cheap broken sensors and/or parts that cause the problem you are just waisting money at the pump... it is oil consumption either way.
oil level is NOT the same as oil pressure....level can b fine but if no pressure the engine will soon die...get a garage to put a pressure gauge on it to check if it ur gauge or oil pump.
all the sending unit does is tell you that the engine is getting oil.when it gets low, then it comes on and tells you to check it.you can still drive it,as long as you keep an eye on it,and check it ever so often, but it would be best if you get it fixed, they dont cost that much.
