My car has 116,000 miles on it %26amp; it is not leaking oil. Does this mean it is burning the oil? It seems to burn oil faster if I drive on the freeways. If it is burning oil, what can I do about it?In between oil changes I have to refill my car with 1-2 quarts of oil. What could this mean?
well there's a couple of issues here type of car first of usually chevy's will burn oil after about 100,000 miles so that will happen but should'nt be 1-2 qts maybe a half qt. 2nd are you the one doing the oil change and making sure the amount ur putting in is the amount the car calls for including the oil that stays in the filter with a lil more info about ur car i could tell you more. Now as far as the oil burning you can try additives that say they will stop the burning process but if the engine has some wear on it like yours does it's gonna get hot and burn oil gonna happen so save ur money. Now the only thing i've ever done and or heard is that you can jump the weight of oil in your vehicle if it calls for a 5w30 you can try and put in a heavier weight like a 10w40 so the protection is greater, but be aware heavier oil will work the engine a lil more so let it warm its self up.In between oil changes I have to refill my car with 1-2 quarts of oil. What could this mean?
yes you are burning oil and that mean your motor is due for a rebuild..
yes it running fine, and i know today no one has 2 grand in the bank to burn on a new motor. upgrade to a better Quality of oil like Valvoline max life or any high mileage oil that should help. or change to a 10w40 oil ..
Could be burning oil. Are you sure it's not leaking? What color is the exhaust? Could be a cracked block.
When was the last time you had a tune up or overhaul?
You could have a leak that doesn't get to the ground, check around the head gaskets.
Dose it do this every time you have a oil change It might be burning it or that is what it takes to fill the new oil filter check with the person doing the oil changing
One quart use between 3000 mile oil change is considered normal. You didn't say how many miles you drive before doing the oil and filter change. Changing over to one of the high mileage type oils may help. Also check your PCV.
get a new car
